2024 Year in Review + 2025 Vision

Menominee, MI — The M&M Area Community Foundation (MMACF) celebrates a transformative year in 2024, marked by impactful community initiatives, dynamic leadership, and the creation of innovative funds. Through collaboration and generosity, the Foundation continues to serve Marinette County, WI, and Menominee County, MI, as a resource for nonprofits and a steward of philanthropy.

New Leadership Energizes Foundation
Mid-year, the MMACF welcomed Ashley Berken as Executive Director and, in the fall, Kaitlin Deschane as Program Director. Their combined vision has positioned the Foundation for growth and innovation, reinforcing its commitment to fostering philanthropy and enhancing community well-being.

“This year has been one of transformation and opportunity,” said Ashley Berken, Executive Director. “From supporting students to empowering nonprofits, MMACF is committed to building a brighter, more resilient future for Marinette and Menominee communities.”

2024 Milestones

  • Grantmaking Impact: Distributed 130 grants totaling approximately $800,000, supporting critical community needs.
  • Scholarship Excellence: Awarded 90 scholarships, valued at $109,000, to help local students achieve their educational dreams.
  • New Scholarship Funds: Launched the Jan Blumreich Memorial Scholarship and the 1912 Ansul Community Scholarship:
    • The Jan Blumreich Memorial Scholarship, in honor of Janice R. Blumreich’s legacy of resilience, supports graduating female students from Oconto High School who have demonstrated athleticism, sportsmanship, and community service
    • Th​e 1912 ANSUL Community Scholarship, funded by Tyco Fire Products, assists graduating seniors from Marinette, Menominee, Peshtigo, and St. Thomas Aquinas High Schools, emphasizing financial need and good character.
  • New Field of Interest Fund—Timmie Riley Fund for Fixin’ Cats: This fund will open for grant applications in Fall 2025 and address cat population control across Northeast Wisconsin.
  • The Women’s Giving Circle Steering Committee was revitalized, and its official launch party is scheduled for January 14, 2025, at The Lodge on Main in Marinette. The group will also begin its grant cycle from February 1–28, 2025. Visit mmacf.org/grants for details.

Looking Forward to 2025
The MMACF eagerly anticipates its Scholarship Season in March and the introduction of continuing education workshops focused on capacity building for local nonprofits. Through its partnership with the M&M Area Community Collaborative, the Foundation will deliver tools and resources to empower community organizations.
